Day 35 - Wild life in Salem, OR

overcast 10 °C

This morning we left Grants Pass on our way to Salem OR. The sky was grey and the temperature was 2 C (36 F). We encountered fog as we drove over the 4 mountain passes between Grants Pass and Eugene.

The high temperature for today was 10 C (50 F). We did enjoy some sunshine along the way.

We arrived safely at the home of our niece and her husband. Their home backs onto a city park with a ravine. They have bird feeders in the backyard. The first visitor was a hummingbird who sat in a nearby tree long enough for Reta to catch a photo which turned out to be a silhouette but exciting just the same.

Our next visitor was a chickadee.

A chipmunk came by because the bird feeders drop goodies on the ground.

We went to a restaurant called Vendi for dinner/supper. We stopped at a park along the Willamette River to see how the river was doing. The river is overflowing its banks. This picture shows a railroad bridge which is now a footbridge.

These mallards came up the bank to visit us.

We found this sign, which is now 6 or 8 feet away from the shore, kind of humourous. Who would want to drive there?

After an excellent dinner we returned to our niece's home and enjoyed an evening of visiting.
